Old Dominion University announced on May 4 that its baseball team will host the University of Richmond for their third matchup this season at the Ellmer Family Baseball Complex in Norfolk. The game is scheduled for Tuesday, May 5 at 6 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
The contest marks the continuation of a longstanding rivalry between the two programs, with Old Dominion leading the all-time series 59-42. The Monarchs have won both previous meetings this season, including a close extra-innings victory in April when Jack Slater delivered a walk-off RBI single after Richmond tied the game in the ninth inning.
Fans attending Tuesday’s game can park at designated lots near campus and enter through an outfield entrance by ODU’s Chemistry Building. Temporary seating will be available, along with amenities such as a food truck, beer garden, and portable toilets. General admission tickets are $10, with discounts for faculty, military personnel, and children. Big Blue’s Kids Club members receive free admission to all home games.
Old Dominion enters the matchup with a record of 24-23 overall and an 11-13 mark in Sun Belt Conference play following recent wins against VCU and Arkansas State. Efrain Morales leads ODU hitters with a .359 average while Zach Leite has driven in 57 runs this season—ranking second in conference RBIs per game. Freshman Chris Cavalcante is set to make his first collegiate start as pitcher for ODU.
Richmond holds a record of 27-20 overall and sits at 14-10 in Atlantic 10 Conference action after winning two out of three games against Davidson over the weekend. Five Spiders starters are batting above .300 this year; Dylan Winebrenner leads his team with fourteen home runs and forty-six RBIs while Michael Elko is Richmond’s top base-stealing threat with twenty-four stolen bases.
After facing Richmond, Old Dominion will travel south for a Sun Belt series against No.8 Coastal Carolina later this week.
