Old Dominion University announced on April 30 that its baseball team will adjust its upcoming Sun Belt Conference series against Arkansas State, moving to a Friday doubleheader and a Sunday game at the Ellmer Family Baseball Complex in Norfolk. The changes are being made because of expected inclement weather on Saturday.
The adjustment is important for fans and both teams as it allows the full three-game series to be played despite weather concerns. The first game will begin at 2 p.m. on Friday, followed by the second game at 6 p.m., with the final game scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m.
All games will be streamed live on ESPN+, with Weston DeWitt providing commentary for Friday’s games and Andy Mashaw covering Sunday’s matchup. Fans attending can park in designated lots near the stadium, enter through an outfield gate next to ODU’s Chemistry Building, and use temporary seating in left center field. Amenities include a food truck, beer garden presented by IBEW, portable toilets outside, and access to restrooms inside the Jim Jarrett Athletic Administration Building.
General admission tickets are priced at $10 each, with discounts available for faculty, military personnel, and children ages two to twelve. ODU Baseball Voucher Books are also offered for bulk ticket purchases. Members of Big Blue’s Kids Club receive free admission this season.
The Monarchs (22-22 overall; 9-12 Sun Belt) recently secured a walk-off win over VCU and have seen strong performances from Efrain Morales (.352 average), Zach Leite (.323), Will Johnson (.321), Maverick Stallings (.311), Tyler Zedalis (.308), and Scotty Young (.302). Leite ranks second in RBIs within the conference. On the mound, right-handers Darin Kuskie (2-6 record) and JJ Gatti (0-4) lead ODU’s rotation.
Arkansas State enters with a record of 26-17 overall (10-11 Sun Belt). Key players include Ashton Quiller (.324 average), Derek Martinez (.316; sixth in league home runs), Cason Campbell (.309), Lane Walton (11 home runs; third most triples in conference), Patrick Engskov (nine stolen bases) and others contributing offensively. The Red Wolves hold one of Division I’s top earned run averages at 3.90.
Looking ahead, Old Dominion is set to host Richmond next Tuesday evening for their third meeting this season.
