Old Dominion University’s women’s sailing team finished their season on May 17 after placing 14th out of 18 schools in the semifinals of the Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) Women’s Fleet Race National Championship hosted by South Florida.
The event marked the end of Old Dominion’s competitive year, with the team participating in ten races across two divisions. The Monarchs’ A division boat earned 89 points, while the B division boat collected 132 points, for a combined total of 221. Stanford led all teams with its A division scoring 51 points and its B division tallying 30.
Old Dominion’s A Division featured sophomore skipper Marina Conde and junior crew Molly Hanson. The B Division included junior skipper Gianna Dewey, freshman skipper Arabella Duer, senior crew Cadence Goodnight, freshman skipper Petra Humphrey, and junior crew Morgan Auth.
Other top finishers included Harvard in second place with a total of 98 points and Charleston in third with 117. Dartmouth (121), Roger Williams (137), Tufts (138), Boston College (157), Jacksonville (173), and Rhode Island (205) rounded out the top nine advancing to finals. Fordham also finished with 205 but lost a tiebreaker for ninth place.
Teams that did not advance included Connecticut (210), St. Mary’s (218), Hobart & William Smith (220), Old Dominion (221) in fourteenth place, Columbia (243), UC Santa Barbara (277), NC State (289), and Vermont (312).
The top nine teams from this semifinal joined nine qualifiers from the Women’s Western National Semi Final for finals scheduled from May 17-18. Bowdoin Polar Bears led that group with Yale and Cornell close behind.
