Occoquan Road in Woodbridge will be closed to through traffic between Horner Road and Old Bridge Road from 9 p.m. on Friday, August 15, until 5 a.m. on Monday, August 18. The closure is for storm drainage installation connected to the I-95 and Route 123 interchange improvements project, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.
Local property access along Occoquan Road will remain available during this period, but travel beyond the overpass in either direction will not be possible.
Detours for through traffic will use Horner Road, Route 123 (Gordon Boulevard), and Old Bridge Road before returning to Occoquan Road.
The ongoing interchange improvement project at I-95 and Route 123 includes several changes: replacing the northbound Route 123 loop ramp to southbound I-95 with a signalized left-turn, widening the southbound Route 123 ramp to two lanes, moving the Express Lanes ramp intersection slightly south, realigning the southbound I-95 ramp to northbound Route 123, adding a shared-use path along northbound Route 123 from Annapolis Way to Devil’s Reach Road, and widening as well as replacing beams and deck of the southbound I-95 bridge over Occoquan Road.
Construction on the section of southbound I-95 including its bridge over Occoquan Road is expected to finish by late 2027. The entire interchange improvement project is scheduled for completion in late 2028.
A public meeting about construction progress is planned for September. Details about this meeting will be announced later.
