The Atlantic Coast Conference announced on April 14 that Jeremiah Nubbe and Liam Paneque from the Virginia men’s track and field team have been named ACC Athletes of the Week following their performances at the Duke Invitational.

These honors highlight notable achievements for both athletes during a key period in the outdoor season. Recognition by the conference brings attention to their individual progress as well as to Virginia’s track and field program.

Jeremiah Nubbe was named ACC Men’s Field Athlete of the Week after winning the men’s hammer throw with a mark of 70.11 meters (230-0) on his second-to-last attempt at Duke. Nubbe holds a season best of 72.64 meters (238-4) from an earlier meet, ranking him first in the Atlantic Coast Conference and fourth nationally this season.

Liam Paneque earned ACC Men’s Freshman of the Week honors after setting two personal records in Durham, North Carolina, competing in both long jump and triple jump events. On his first attempt in each event, he recorded a distance of 7.36 meters (24-1.75) for fourth place in long jump—making him second among freshmen in program history—and jumped 14.50 meters (47-4) for tenth overall in triple jump.

Nubbe and Paneque are now among five Cavaliers who have received weekly conference recognition during this outdoor season, joining Will Daley, Charlotta Sandkulla, and Kendric Curry.

Looking ahead, Virginia will host the 2026 Virginia Challenge at Lannigan Field from April 16 through April 18. The event will feature senior recognition activities on Saturday as well as a special dedication for Friday’s distance carnival.
