The No. 9 Virginia baseball team will play against the VCU Rams on April 14, following a successful road series at Notre Dame. The Cavaliers, with a record of 26-11, will travel down I-64 for the matchup at The Diamond, while VCU holds a record of 21-14.

This game marks the continuation of Virginia’s strong season performance and offers an opportunity for the Cavaliers to extend their winning streak against VCU. Virginia leads the all-time series between the two teams, having won ten straight games against the Rams and aiming for a season sweep for the fourth consecutive year.

Freshman Christian Lucarelli is set to make his first career start on Tuesday for Virginia. Lucarelli has posted a 1-1 record with a 0.93 earned run average and has struck out fourteen batters over nine and two-thirds innings this season. He recorded his first collegiate win earlier in February with two scoreless innings against George Washington.

Virginia’s offense has been notable this season, averaging just over nine runs per game and ranking among national leaders in both runs scored and home runs hit. The team recently powered through its weekend series at Notre Dame by hitting ten home runs, including key performances from Harrison Didawick—who moved to second all-time on Virginia’s career home run list—and Zach Jackson who contributed late-game heroics.

Several players have received national recognition for their achievements during the first half of the season. Four Cavaliers were named to Perfect Game Midseason All-American teams: AJ Gracia (first team), Lucas Hartman (second team), Eric Becker (third team), and Noah Yoder (freshman second team). D1Baseball also honored Hartman as a second-team Midseason All-American, while Gracia was added to the Golden Spikes Midseason Watch List.

The Cavaliers have demonstrated resilience throughout their schedule with multiple comeback victories and continued success in Atlantic Coast Conference play. As they close out their current road swing at VCU, attention remains on whether they can maintain momentum heading into future conference matchups.
