The No. 23 Virginia baseball team will host the Radford Highlanders for a doubleheader at Disharoon Park on Sunday, May 2, as part of its longest homestand of the season.
The games are significant as Virginia looks to build on its record and continue a strong season performance. The Cavaliers enter the matchup with a 30-16 record, while Radford stands at 21-19.
Fans can watch both games on ACCNX or listen to game two on WINA radio. Free parking is available in all JPJ lots, but a valid ticket is required for entry into the stadium.
Virginia has averaged eight runs per game this season and ranks among the top teams nationally in home runs, having hit 77 so far—already surpassing last year’s total. Three players have been named semifinalists for national awards: Lucas Hartman (National Pitcher of the Year and Stopper of the Year), Tyler Kapa (Stopper of the Year), and Eric Becker (Brooks Wallace Award).
Historically, Virginia holds a strong advantage over Radford with a series record of 22-4-1 and has won their last seven meetings. In their most recent contest in 2023, UVA shut out Radford by an 8-0 score.
Kyle Johnson will start game one for Virginia with John Paone taking the mound in game two. Johnson has posted a low ERA at home this year despite his overall win-loss record, while Paone enters with four wins across his freshman campaign.
Recently, Virginia was swept by Pitt but rebounded by winning its fifth Atlantic Coast Conference series against Clemson and performed strongly against Notre Dame with ten home runs over that weekend series.
Several Cavaliers have also received midseason honors from national publications such as Perfect Game and D1Baseball, including AJ Gracia’s inclusion on multiple All-American teams and his selection to the Golden Spikes Midseason Watch List.
