The Virginia Department of Transportation has announced nighttime ramp closures on I-66 in Arlington County. The closures, set to begin on Sunday night, June 15, and run through Monday night, June 23, are scheduled for paving work.
On Sunday night, June 15, and Monday night, June 16, the Route 29 ramp to westbound I-66 at Exit 72 (Spout Run Parkway) will be closed from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. Traffic will be redirected via Route 29, North Glebe Road, and Fairfax Drive back to westbound I-66.
Following this closure, on Monday night, June 16, and Tuesday night, June 17, the eastbound I-66 Exit 72 ramp to Route 29/Spout Run Parkway will be closed during the same hours. Drivers heading to northbound Route 29 will be detoured via eastbound I-66 to Exit 73 (Rosslyn/Key Bridge) back to northbound Route 29. For those going southbound on Route 29 or eastbound Spout Run Parkway, the detour includes eastbound I-66 to Exit 73 (Rosslyn/Key Bridge), northbound Route 29, and North Nash Street back to their destination.
On Tuesday night, June 17, and Wednesday night, June 18, the westbound I-66 ramp to North Glebe Road (Exit 71) will also close from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m., with traffic being rerouted via westbound I-66 and North Sycamore Street (Exit 69) back onto Route 29 leading to North Glebe Road.
Further closures include Thursday night into Friday morning on June 19 and again on Sunday night into Monday morning on June 22 at the westbound I-66 ramp to North Sycamore Street (Exit 69). Traffic for these dates will be directed via westbound I-66 onto westbound Route 7 (Exit 66B), making a U-turn at Pimmit Drive before returning along eastbound routes back towards North Sycamore Street.
Finally, the eastbound I-66 ramp closure to North Westmoreland Street is planned for Monday night into Tuesday morning on June 22 and Tuesday night into Wednesday morning on June23. During these periods from11 p.m.to4a.m.,drivers will follow detours through north boundRoute29(Exit69),west boundWashington Boulevard,and25thStreetNorth/FairfaxDrive leading them back ontoNorthWestmorelandStreet.
