Nighttime closures are planned for U.S. 29/250 at the Route 601 (Old Ivy Road) overpass in Albemarle County, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT). The closures will begin on Monday, October 6, and continue through October 10. Work will take place nightly from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. while crews repair three damaged bridge beams.

The Old Ivy Road bridge will remain closed during these repairs and is expected to reopen once the work is complete and the bridge is deemed safe for traffic. These new closures are in addition to previously scheduled nighttime closures set for October 4–6 as part of ongoing construction at the overpass.

VDOT has arranged separate detours for truck and passenger vehicle traffic during each closure period. Trucks traveling north will be directed onto Interstate 64 east to Exit 124, then west on U.S. 250 (Richmond Road), before taking the ramp for U.S. 29 north (Emmet Street/Seminole Trail). Passenger vehicles and local traffic heading north will use U.S. 250 Business (Ivy Road) and Emmet Street, while drivers seeking points south of the closure can access U.S. 29/250 via the west exit at Route 601, turning left onto eastbound U.S. 250 Business and then immediately right onto U.S. 29/250.

All work is dependent on weather conditions, and drivers are encouraged to exercise caution in the area and follow posted detour signs.

Local updates about road conditions in VDOT’s Culpeper District can be found on social media platforms such as x.com/VaDOTCULP and within the VDOT Culpeper District Facebook group.

VDOT’s Culpeper District covers several counties: Albemarle, Culpeper, Fauquier, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa, Madison, Orange and Rappahannock; however, Charlottesville city maintains its own roads.
