Drivers in the McLean area should prepare for nightly lane closures on the Capital Beltway as part of ongoing construction work. The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has announced that there will be triple-lane closures on both northbound and southbound I-495, along with a closure and detour of the ramp from northbound I-495 to George Washington Memorial Parkway at Exit 43. These disruptions are scheduled for tonight, June 20, and from Sunday night, June 22, through Wednesday night, July 2.
The lane closures will occur between the George Washington Memorial Parkway and Dulles Toll Road from 9:30 p.m. until 5 a.m. the next morning. Meanwhile, the ramp closure will take place from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., requiring drivers to follow a designated detour route.
The detour involves continuing on northbound I-495 across the American Legion Bridge into Maryland, taking Exit 41 for Clara Barton Parkway, staying left for westbound Clara Barton Parkway, exiting to Carderock and turning left at the stop sign before merging back onto eastbound Clara Barton Parkway. Drivers then continue onto southbound I-495 toward Virginia before taking Exit 43 for George Washington Memorial Parkway.
All planned work is contingent upon weather conditions and may be rescheduled if necessary. VDOT advises drivers to exercise caution and anticipate potential delays when traveling through this area.
