Beginning on the night of May 6 and continuing through May 9, several ramps to and from northbound I-495 in the Tysons-McLean area will be closed. The closures are scheduled for nightly intervals from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. to allow crews from the 495 NEXT project to conduct paving and striping work in preparation for a traffic shift on the Beltway planned for Friday night, May 9.
The affected ramps include:
1. Northbound I-495 ramp to George Washington Memorial Parkway (Exit 43). The detour involves continuing on northbound I-495 into Maryland, taking Exit 41 for Clara Barton Parkway, staying left for westbound Clara Barton Parkway, exiting at Carderock, turning left at the stop sign followed by another left turn to merge back onto eastbound Clara Barton Parkway, continuing on eastbound Clara Barton Parkway, and finally merging onto southbound I-495 toward Virginia before taking Exit 43.
2. Northbound I-495 ramp to Georgetown Pike (Exit 44). Drivers are advised to take an earlier exit south of the Dulles Corridor Interchange at Exit 46B for northbound Route 123/Chain Bridge Road and continue northbound on Route 123/Chain Bridge Road to reach the Georgetown Pike interchange.
3. East- and westbound Georgetown Pike ramp to northbound I-495. The detour suggests exiting Georgetown Pike onto southbound I-495, taking Exit 46B for northbound Route 123/Chain Bridge Road, and following Route 123/Chain Bridge Road to merge onto northbound I-495.
4. Eastbound Dulles Toll Road/Airport Access Highway (Route 267) ramp to northbound I-495 (Exit 18B). Drivers should take Exit 18A onto southbound I-495 and then use Exit 46B for northbound Route 123/Chain Bridge Road before merging immediately onto northbound I-495.
All scheduled work is weather-dependent and may be rescheduled if necessary. Motorists are encouraged to exercise caution and anticipate potential delays when traveling through this area.
