Beginning on Monday, April 28, through Friday, May 2, various ramps to and from northbound I-495 at the George Washington Memorial Parkway and Georgetown Pike interchanges in Virginia will be closed each night. The closures, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., are to facilitate paving and striping work by the 495 NEXT crews in preparation for a planned traffic shift on May 2.
Detours will be posted for affected routes. Motorists heading to GWMP (Exit 43) via northbound I-495 will be redirected through Maryland via the Clara Barton Parkway. For those traveling to Georgetown Pike (Exit 44), an alternate route through Route 123/Chain Bridge Road will be in place. Similarly, a detour via southbound I-495 to Route 123 will be set for travelers from Georgetown Pike to northbound I-495.
Work is dependent on weather conditions and may be postponed if necessary. Drivers are advised to exercise caution and anticipate delays while traveling through the area.
Motorists can access updates, road conditions, and additional information through the VA 511 system: online at 511.vdot.virginia.gov, via a mobile app, or by calling 511. Further details about construction and lane closures are available at 495next.vdot.virginia.gov.
