The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has announced that the next phase of long-term traffic changes for the Norfolk Express Lanes project will soon begin on Interstate 64 east. The new traffic shift is part of ongoing work to improve travel through the corridor.
The upcoming changes will affect several key ramps and interchanges along I-64 east. Specifically, drivers should expect impacts at the on-ramp from Granby Street/Patrol Road, the on-ramp from Little Creek Road, both on- and off-ramps to and from Tidewater Drive (exits 277A/B), the off-ramp to I-564 west/Granby Street (exit 276), and the on-ramp from I-564 east.
VDOT officials urge motorists to pay close attention to signage and changing traffic patterns as crews implement these adjustments. These changes are designed to keep construction progressing while maintaining safety for both workers and drivers.
According to VDOT, this long-term traffic shift is a critical step in advancing the Norfolk Express Lanes project, which aims to enhance mobility in one of Hampton Roads’ busiest corridors.
“Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead, stay alert for construction updates, and allow extra travel time as these shifts go into effect,” VDOT stated.
Additional details about timing or detours related to this phase were not immediately available.
