Morgan Cooper has been named Pitcher of the Week by the Big South Conference, according to an announcement on Apr. 6. The recognition comes after Cooper’s strong performances in two close games for the Radford Highlanders against East Tennessee State University and Charleston Southern.

The award highlights Cooper’s contributions as she allowed only two runs over 15 innings, securing two victories for her team. In a game against ETSU, Cooper kept the game-winning run stranded at third base in the seventh inning and again held off a tying run in extra innings to secure a 3-2 win. She followed up with seven shutout innings against Charleston Southern, allowing just one hit and helping Radford claim a narrow 1-0 victory.

This marks the sixth weekly award for the Highlanders this season and is Cooper’s third time earning Pitcher of the Week honors—a single-season career high for her. Teammates Dakota Redmon and Peyton Simmons have also received conference weekly awards this year. The team has now matched its total from last season with six weekly awards, which was last achieved regularly between 2005 and 2012.

Radford is set to host New River Valley rivals on Tuesday, April 7th. The upcoming game against nationally-ranked Virginia Tech Hokies will begin at 5 p.m., broadcast live on ESPN+.
