The Old Dominion Monarchs men’s baseball team scored six runs in the first three innings and maintained their lead throughout a game against Georgia State, according to an April 24 report. The Monarchs improved their record to 21-20 overall and 9-10 in Sun Belt Conference play.

The win is significant as it keeps Old Dominion competitive within the conference standings and demonstrates strong offensive production early in the game. The Monarchs capitalized on multiple opportunities, including loading the bases several times and drawing a season-high 13 walks.

Efrain Morales started the scoring with a leadoff double and later crossed home plate on a single by Zach Leite. Macaddin Dye contributed with an RBI walk, while Tyler Zedalis also walked in a run during the second inning. In total, Morales finished with two hits, three runs scored, two RBIs, and two walks. Nick Felton went two-for-three at bat with two runs scored and two walks of his own.

Pitcher Ben Tanton played a key role by delivering four scoreless innings of relief work, allowing just two hits while striking out six batters to improve his season record to 6-0. Darin Kuskie started for Old Dominion, pitching four innings with five strikeouts before Jayce Park closed out the ninth inning for the save.

The Monarchs’ previous high for walks this season was eleven during a victory over Norfolk State on Feb. 25. Their latest performance set a new mark at thirteen free passes issued by opposing pitchers.

The series between Old Dominion and Georgia State is scheduled to continue tomorrow afternoon at GSU Baseball Complex.
