Mia Pozzi, a lacrosse player from Syracuse, New York, shared her experiences and development as part of the Virginia Tech women’s lacrosse team in a statement released on May 5. Pozzi described how she sought not just athletic achievement but also a sense of belonging when choosing Virginia Tech.

Her background in Syracuse’s strong lacrosse culture prepared her for the challenges ahead. Before joining Virginia Tech, Pozzi helped lead her high school team to multiple championships, setting the foundation for her college career.

Since arriving at Virginia Tech, Pozzi has earned Third Team All-ACC and IWLCA Second Team All-Region honors. She said that visiting the campus during a football game convinced her it was the right place: “Virginia Tech’s atmosphere is amazing,” Pozzi said. “When I visited, they [the coaching staff] took me to a football game, and it just sealed the deal. You could feel the passion and energy; everyone was so devoted and involved.”

Pozzi emphasized how important teamwork is to her experience with the program. “We’re all so close; it really feels like a family,” she said. “There’s so much trust in one another, and we all work so hard together. That’s what makes this team what it is.” During her junior season in 2026, she recorded 54 points with 34 goals and led in assists and draw controls.

Discussing personal growth within the program, Pozzi credited coaches for challenging players: “My confidence has definitely grown,” Pozzi admitted. “Our coaches push us to be better every day, and that builds a lot of character. Everyone on this team is striving to be the best version of themselves.”

Representing Virginia Tech remains meaningful for Pozzi: “We absolutely love representing the Hokies,” she said. “It’s such a special thing to be a part of… there are so many special things about Tech… But I’d say pride is a big one.” In reflecting on her journey from Syracuse to Blacksburg, she highlighted how being part of this community helped shape both her skills as an athlete and connections off the field.
