McDevitt Drive in Culpeper is set to reopen to through traffic on Friday, Dec. 5, following the completion of a new single-lane roundabout at its intersection with Route 3 (Germanna Highway). The project, led by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), aims to enhance safety and improve traffic flow at a location that was previously controlled by stop signs.
The road closure began in early April to allow construction crews to build the roundabout, reconstruct McDevitt Drive’s approach, and install a sidewalk along the southeast quadrant of the intersection. With these changes, VDOT expects smoother entry and exit for drivers using McDevitt Drive, better visibility for motorists passing through the area, and reduced risk of angle and rear-end crashes. The roundabout design lowers vehicle speeds and eliminates left turns across Route 3.
“Motorists are encouraged to stay alert to the new traffic pattern and use caution while traveling through the intersection as drivers adjust,” according to VDOT.
