The Martinsville City Council voted on April 14 to release the results of a forensic audit conducted by Brown Edwards. Copies of the audit were distributed after the council meeting, and residents can now access the document through the City’s website under the “Transparency” tab.
The decision to make the audit public comes amid concerns from residents about actions detailed in its findings, which city leadership acknowledges have contributed to reduced confidence in local government. The move aims to address these concerns and promote transparency.
In response, city staff have begun a broad effort focused on strengthening accountability, improving financial controls, and reinforcing public trust in how taxpayer resources are managed. City Manager Rob Fincher has released an “Actions Taken to Restore Accountability and Financial Integrity” document that describes significant policy reforms either implemented or underway across financial, administrative, and human resources operations.
“The City of Martinsville remains fully committed to continuous improvement and to implementing additional safeguards that ensure responsible, transparent governance. We will continue working diligently to protect the public trust and to ensure that your tax dollars are managed with the highest level of integrity,” said Fincher.
According to city officials, this process is ongoing and further changes in policy or procedures may be introduced as needed.
