Lynchburg District announces weekly traffic alert for July 14-20

Highway work is planned in the Lynchburg District from July 14 to July 20, 2025. The work may involve road, lane, or structure closures and could be delayed or canceled due to weather or other issues. New or updated information is indicated in italics. For the latest updates, individuals are advised to call 511 or visit the Virginia Department of Transportation’s website.

Throughout the district, crews will conduct various activities including bridge and guardrail maintenance, brush cutting, pothole repairs, surface treatment and paving operations, mowing, drainage repairs, and roadside cleanup.

In Cumberland County, Route 673 (Ligontown Rd.) will be closed for bridge rehabilitation from Guinea Road to River Road with an estimated completion by mid-July 2025. In Nelson County, Route 653 (Wilson Road) remains closed for a bridge replacement over the Norfolk Southern Railroad with an expected reopening in November 2025.

The alert also covers Amherst County, Appomattox County, Buckingham County, Campbell County, Charlotte County, Halifax County, Lynchburg City itself, and Pittsylvania County where district-wide activities will take place as noted above.
