Lynchburg District announces upcoming roadwork and closures from May 26 to June

Highway work is scheduled across the Lynchburg District from May 26 to June 1, 2025. However, adverse weather or other issues may cause delays or cancellations. The public can obtain the latest updates by calling 511 or visiting the Virginia Department of Transportation’s website.

District-wide maintenance activities include bridge and guardrail upkeep, vegetation management, pothole repairs, paving operations, mowing, drainage work, and roadside cleanup.

In Cumberland County, Route 673 (Ligontown Rd.) will be closed for bridge rehabilitation between Guinea Road and River Road until late June 2025. In Lynchburg, alternating lane closures on Route 128 (Candlers Mountain Road) are expected due to ongoing bridge rehabilitation over the Norfolk Southern Railroad with completion projected by July 1, 2025.

Nelson County sees a closure on Route 653 (Wilson Road) for a bridge replacement over the Norfolk Southern Railroad until November 2025. In Pittsylvania County, Route 813 (Glenview Drive) is closed to through traffic between Elm Road and Strawberry Road until June 1, while new road construction continues on Route 311 (Harville-Saunders Parkway), with shoulder and lane closures anticipated as off-roadway work progresses towards an overall completion date of June 16, 2025.
