Highway work is scheduled across the Lynchburg District from January 5 to 11, 2026, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT). Planned activities include bridge and guardrail maintenance, brush and tree cutting, pothole repairs, paving operations, drainage work, mowing, and roadside cleanup. Weather or other issues may delay or cancel some projects.

In Amherst County, Route 1202 (Lynchburg Avenue over Branch Harris Creek) remains closed due to bridge deterioration. A detour uses Brooks Street, Harrison Avenue, Francis Avenue, and Route 29 Business. There is no set completion date for this closure.

Campbell County will see significant changes starting January 12 as the Route 711 (Clarion Road) bridge over Route 29 Bypass (Wards Road) closes for repairs. Eastbound traffic will be detoured via Route 29 South to the Route 714 interchange and then back north on Route 29. Westbound traffic will follow a similar detour using the Route 712 interchange. The on and off ramps at the Route 711 interchange will stay open. Signage and message boards will direct motorists along these routes. The estimated completion for this project is March 2026.

Also in Campbell County, an intersection improvement project on Route 29 (Wards Road) near Gladys Road will close passing lanes in both directions until September 2026.

Charlotte County’s Route 642 (Mossing Ford Road) bridge over Roanoke Creek remains closed for replacement with a detour in place; reopening is expected by December 2026.

In Pittsylvania County, two projects are underway: the replacement of the bridge on Route 686 (Markham Road), which keeps the road closed with a detour until January 2026; and road widening on Route 311 (Harville-Saunders Parkway), which will cause temporary lane closures managed by flaggers through November 2027.

For all counties listed—including Appomattox, Buckingham, Cumberland, Halifax, Lynchburg city proper, Nelson, and Prince Edward—district-wide maintenance activities are ongoing.
