Highway work is scheduled in the Lynchburg District from June 23 to June 29, 2025. The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has announced potential road, lane, and structure closures due to various maintenance activities. However, the work schedule may change due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.

Throughout the district, crews will engage in tasks such as bridge and guardrail maintenance, tree cutting, pothole repairs, surface treatment and paving operations, mowing, drainage repairs, and roadside cleanup.

In Cumberland County, Route 673 (Ligontown Rd.) is closed for bridge rehabilitation between Guinea Road and River Road. The project is expected to be completed by late June 2025.

Lynchburg will see alternating lane closures on Route 128 (Candlers Mountain Road) for bridge rehabilitation over the Norfolk Southern Railroad. These closures are planned nightly from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., starting June 19 until June 26. The overall project completion is anticipated by July 1, 2025.

In Nelson County, Route 653 (Wilson Road) remains closed for a bridge replacement over the Norfolk Southern Railroad with an estimated reopening in November 2025.
