Highway work in the Lynchburg District is scheduled for June 2-8, 2025. Weather or other issues may cause delays or cancellations. For updates, residents can call 511 or visit the website provided by the Virginia Department of Transportation.

District-wide activities include bridge and guardrail maintenance, brush and tree cutting, pothole repairs, surface treatment and paving operations, mowing, drainage repairs, and roadside cleanup.

In Cumberland County, Route 673 (Ligontown Rd.) will be closed from Guinea Road to River Road for bridge rehabilitation until late June 2025.

In Lynchburg, Route 128 (Candlers Mountain Road) will undergo bridge rehabilitation over Norfolk Southern Railroad. Phase 2 starts on June 1 at approximately 6 p.m., restricting the structure to a single travel lane. The Lynchburg Expressway Exit 8B onto Candlers Mountain Road and a right turn out of River Ridge Mall’s northern exit will be closed. This phase is expected to last until June 11 before transitioning to Phase 3. Completion is anticipated by July 1, 2025.

Nelson County’s Route 653 (Wilson Road) remains closed for bridge replacement over Norfolk Southern Railroad with an estimated reopening in November 2025.

In Pittsylvania County, Route 813 (Glenview Drive) is closed between Elm Road and Strawberry Road for bridge repairs until June 13, while Route 311 (Harville-Saunders Parkway) has ongoing new road construction with shoulder and lane closures expected until completion on June 16.

Residents are advised to note district-wide activities that apply across all counties mentioned above.
