Highway maintenance and construction projects are scheduled across the Lynchburg District from October 27 to November 3, 2025, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT). Weather or other factors may cause delays or cancellations. Motorists can access up-to-date information by calling 511 or visiting https://511.vdot.virginia.gov.
District-wide, crews will be working on bridge and guardrail maintenance, cutting brush and tree limbs, repairing potholes and shoulders, conducting paving operations, mowing, drainage repairs, and roadside cleanup.
In Lynchburg, bridge repairs continue on Route 460 (Richmond Highway) westbound over Route 501/460 (Candlers Mountain Road) eastbound ramp. The eastbound ramp will be closed weeknights from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., starting October 6. Signs and message boards will direct motorists along a detour via Route 460 westbound to Route 29 (Wards Road), then back to Route 460 eastbound. Lane closures are also expected on Route 460 westbound. Completion is estimated for November 2025.
In Nelson County, the bridge on Route 653 (Wilson Road) over the Norfolk Southern Railroad remains closed with an expected reopening in November 2025.
Prince Edward County has two ongoing projects: Bridge repairs on the Route 460 Bypass (Prince Edward Highway) eastbound over Briery Creek have reduced traffic to one lane since October 7; completion is targeted for November 2025. On Route 628 (Germantown Road) over Route 15/460 Bypass (Prince Edward Highway), traffic is limited to one lane with temporary signals in place; lane closures are also anticipated on the bypass until November next year.
Other counties in the district—including Amherst, Appomattox, Buckingham, Campbell, Charlotte, Cumberland, Halifax, and Pittsylvania—will see general maintenance activities as described above.
“Signage and message boards will notify and direct motorists along the detour,” VDOT stated regarding the Lynchburg ramp closure.
