Louisiana Tech secured a 7-2 victory over Liberty on April 24 after a five-run rally in the ninth inning at Kamphuis Field at Liberty Softball Stadium. This win marks Louisiana Tech’s first-ever triumph over Liberty and improves their season record to 24-23, including a 10-12 mark in Conference USA play. The Lady Flames now stand at 23-24 overall and hold a conference record of 15-7.
The game was tied at two runs apiece through seven innings, making it Liberty’s first extra-inning contest of the season. Both teams had opportunities with leadoff baserunners in the eighth inning, but neither managed to score. In the top of the ninth, Louisiana Tech capitalized on two errors by Liberty to score five runs—four of which were unearned—and took control of the game.
Laney Johnson earned her seventh win for Louisiana Tech by pitching four innings of relief and allowing only two hits while walking one batter. Allie Floyd started for LA Tech but was replaced after less than an inning. Camden Anders took the loss for Liberty, giving up five runs (three earned) on eight hits across eight innings while striking out five batters.
Alannah Rogers led Louisiana Tech offensively with four hits—including two doubles—two RBI, and one run scored. Reagan Marchant also contributed with a double and two RBI for the Bulldogs. For Liberty, Brynn McManus hit her eighth home run of the season and is now tied for fifth-most home runs hit in Liberty Softball Stadium history with Devyn Howard.
Liberty remains ahead in their all-time series against Louisiana Tech with an overall record of 11-1 since joining Conference USA before the 2024 season. The Lady Flames have played three extra-inning games against LA Tech historically, winning twice before this matchup.
The teams will continue their weekend series tomorrow at Liberty Softball Stadium starting at 2 p.m., where Liberty plans to honor its five seniors during a pregame ceremony.
