The Loudoun County School Board held a meeting on April 28 to review financial updates, discuss new policies, and recognize staff achievements. The meeting took place at the Loudoun County Public Schools Administrative Offices in Ashburn.
The board addressed several important topics including the third quarter financial review for fiscal year 2026, approval of the Special Education Annual Plan Application for 2026-2027, and an update on sustainability efforts within the school district. These discussions are part of ongoing efforts to ensure transparency and continuous improvement in school operations.
During the recognitions segment, staff announced recipients of the 2026 Annual Awards from both operational and instructional programs. Eric Kursman from Blue Ridge Middle School was named Teacher of the Year, while Katie Johnson from Belmont Ridge Middle School received Principal of the Year honors. The board also heard a presentation highlighting how Belmont Station’s special education teachers adapted classic literature for meaningful student learning experiences.
Superintendent highlights included Harper Park students celebrating Arbor Day with a tree planting ceremony attended by Leesburg’s mayor, over 500 students participating in Innovation Day at Academies of Loudoun, and Park View High School advisors receiving statewide recognition as Advisors of the Year. Community members were given an opportunity to provide public comment on various topics during this session.
Action items discussed included a new policy regarding Other Post Employment Benefits funding, which will be voted on at an upcoming meeting. Information items covered proposed increases to next year’s operating budget based on state funding allocations as well as multiple calendar options for future academic years. In closing remarks, board members discussed student safety concerns related to recent vehicle accidents and called for increased education around safe driving practices.
