Loudoun County homeowners have the opportunity to learn more about solar power options specific to their properties through Solarize Virginia, according to an announcement on Apr. 15. The initiative aims to reduce the cost and complexity of adopting solar energy in the region.

The campaign is designed to help residents understand the changing landscape of solar power, especially as incentives and technologies evolve. Organizers say that Solarize Virginia provides free satellite assessments for potential installations, streamlined installation processes, and discounted pricing from vetted installers. Although federal tax credits for residential solar are no longer available, Loudoun property owners may still qualify for a local Solar Energy Tax Exemption.

In addition to possible tax benefits, going solar may help homeowners lower their energy bills, increase home value, and gain greater control over their energy usage. Residents interested in learning more are encouraged to register for upcoming virtual information sessions about the 2026 Solarize Virginia program. These sessions will be held at three different times throughout the day: 10:00–11:00 a.m., 12:00–1:00 p.m., and 2:00–3:00 p.m.

Solarize Virginia is sponsored by the Local Energy Alliance Program in partnership with the Northern Virginia Regional Commission and several municipal governments including Loudoun County. The current program runs through July 15.

Additional details about Solarize Virginia can be found at solarizeva.org. Information regarding permits required for installing residential or commercial solar photovoltaic systems in Loudoun County is available at loudoun.gov/SolarPermits.
