Loudoun County officials announced on April 15 that a special election will take place on Tuesday, April 21, 2026. The announcement includes six important reminders for voters to ensure a smooth voting process.

The special election is significant because it will decide on a proposed amendment to the Constitution of Virginia regarding redistricting. All registered voters in Loudoun County are eligible to participate in this vote.

Voters are advised to cast their ballots at their regular polling places, which will be open from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Election Day. Those who are unsure of their polling location can check their voter registration card or look up information online. Early voting is available until Saturday, April 18, and completed absentee ballots must be postmarked by April 21 or dropped off at designated locations.

Identification is required at the polls; acceptable forms include a Virginia DMV-issued driver’s license. Voters without proper identification may sign an affirmation statement and still receive a regular ballot.

Same-day voter registration is permitted through Election Day with provisional ballots available for those registering late. Voters can stay informed about updates by texting LCVOTES to 888777 or signing up for notifications through the county’s system and following official social media accounts.

Preliminary results from the special election will be posted after polls close on election night. Additional information about the upcoming election and general voting procedures can be found at loudoun.gov/UpcomingElections and loudoun.gov/vote.
