Loudoun County Animal Services announced on May 1 that it will hold a fee-waived pet adoption event from Friday, May 8 through Sunday, May 10 at the Loudoun County Animal Shelter in Leesburg. The event will waive adoption fees for all available pets, including cats, kittens, dogs, puppies and small animals.

The event aims to encourage more community members to consider adopting pets by removing financial barriers. Organizers say the initiative provides an opportunity for families to welcome new pets into their homes at no cost while supporting animal welfare efforts in the county.

Adoption hours on Friday, May 8 are extended from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., giving potential adopters additional time after work. Standard adoption hours of 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. apply on Saturday and Sunday. “We often hear people say they are rushing home from work to adopt on the Friday before a big adoption event, so we are so excited to give people a chance to bring the whole family by on Friday evening and adopt a new best friend at no cost, in addition to welcoming everyone to our fee-waived, weekend event,” says Operations Manager Melissa Heard.

Each adopter will receive a starter supply bag with essential items for their new pet’s transition home. Those adopting dogs or puppies during this period will also be eligible for free dog training classes provided by LCAS.

Available pets can be viewed online at loudoun.gov/animals. The standard screening process remains in place during this promotion and most adoptions can be completed the same day as application submission.

All adopted dogs, cats and rabbits from LCAS are spayed or neutered and come with microchips registered under their adopter’s name. Additional information about programs and services is available at loudoun.gov/animals.
