A winter weather system is forecast to bring light snow to the Culpeper District beginning late Saturday evening and continuing into early Sunday. Snowfall is expected to start after midnight, with accumulations projected to vary across the region.
According to current forecasts, the northern portion of the district may see between 1 and 1.5 inches of snow, while most other areas are likely to receive around 1 inch. Even small amounts of snow can create slick conditions, especially on bridges, ramps, and mountain passes that tend to freeze before other road surfaces.
The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will have crews mobilized throughout the district on Saturday night. These teams will monitor road conditions, treat affected areas, and respond as necessary.
Motorists traveling from Saturday night into Sunday morning are advised to stay alert for changing weather and road conditions. VDOT recommends drivers reduce speed, increase following distance, exercise caution on bridges and elevated surfaces, and give space to snowplows and other equipment operators.
Real-time information about traffic conditions can be accessed through the 511Virginia website at https://www.511virginia.org/, via the free VDOT 511 mobile app, or by calling 511 within Virginia. Updates specific to the Culpeper District are also posted on social media channels including X.com/VaDOTCulp and the Culpeper District Facebook page.
