Liberty University’s women’s sprint team led the performances at the Charlotte Invitational on April 25, winning several key races and recording their fastest outdoor 4 x 400 meter relay time in seven years.

The event highlighted the strength of Liberty’s women’s sprint group as they claimed victories in individual sprints and set notable marks in relay competition. These results continue a tradition of strong showings for Liberty’s track and field program.

Iyana Sherard won both the 100-meter dash, matching her personal best with a time of 11.64 seconds, and the 200-meter dash, setting a new personal record at 23.53 seconds. Her performance in the 200 meters now ranks fourth all-time for Liberty women. Mahogany Mobley secured first place in the women’s 400 meters with a time of 53.27 seconds and finished sixth in the women’s 200 meters at 23.91 seconds.

Sherard and Mobley then joined Maddy Merritt and Patasha Bryan to run the Lady Flames’ fastest outdoor women’s relay since their program-record run in 2019, finishing third overall with a time of 3:40.35—the fourth-fastest mark in school history.

In other results, Eva Whiteman cleared a season-best height of five feet seven-and-a-quarter inches to finish second in high jump on misses after tying for top clearance on Saturday. Ellie Stine placed seventh in discus (145-7), while Rebecca Allen took eighth place in long jump (18-8.5).

On the men’s side, Reagan Wise cleared an outdoor personal best of seventeen feet one-and-a-half inches to tie for fifth all-time among Liberty pole vaulters; Todd Benhase achieved his own outdoor best by clearing sixteen feet seven-and-a-half inches, tying him for tenth on Liberty’s all-time list. Other notable finishes included Ethan Stansbury placing sixth (1:56.02) just behind teammate Jack Holub (fourth, 1:55.73) in the men’s open section of the eight hundred meters after running a personal-best fifteen hundred meters Friday night; Hunter Bleam followed up his javelin result from Friday with fifth place (6-3.5) Saturday’s high jump competition.

Looking ahead, Liberty will compete next at two twilight meets: The Hill City Twilight hosted by University of Lynchburg on May 2 and Duke Twilight scheduled for May 3.
