Liberty defeated Kennesaw State 8-2 in the opening game of a three-game Conference USA softball series at Bailey Park on April 30.

The win improves Liberty’s record to 24-27 overall and 16-9 in conference play, while Kennesaw State falls to 7-41 and remains winless in its last sixteen games. The Lady Flames took control early, building a lead that they extended throughout the game.

In the third inning, Brooke Roberts singled to bring home the first run, followed by a sacrifice fly from Lydia Jessee for a second run. Dani Lee hit a two-run homer in the fourth inning to push Liberty ahead further. Although Kennesaw State responded with two runs in their half of the fourth, Liberty answered by scoring four times in the fifth inning—highlighted by Lee drawing a bases-loaded walk and Roberts hitting a two-run double. Ella Fox added another run on a groundout.

Liberty outhit KSU eleven to three but committed four errors. Camden Anders earned her twelfth win of the season after allowing just one earned run over several innings with five strikeouts. Taylor Daniel took her fifteenth loss for KSU. Offensively, Roberts went three-for-four with two doubles and two runs batted in; Lee contributed with her third home run of the season and three runs batted in.

The Lady Flames now lead their all-time series against KSU twenty-two wins to six and have won each of their last sixteen meetings. Their previous visit to Bailey Park resulted in victory during the championship game of the 2021 ASUN Softball Championship.

The teams are scheduled to play again tomorrow at Bailey Park.
