Liberty University will conclude its regular-season outdoor track and field schedule with the Liberty Twilight Qualifier on Wednesday, May 6. The event, held at the newly resurfaced Matthes-Hopkins Track Complex, will be the only home meet of the season and marks a final opportunity for 23 seniors to compete at their home facility.
Athletes from 28 colleges and universities are set to participate in this one-day meet. Notable programs include Duke, NC State, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Hampton, High Point, and Radford. Competition begins at 11 a.m., starting with women’s discus, women’s long jump, and a lower-seeded section of men’s pole vault. A senior day ceremony is scheduled for 1:30 p.m., followed by running events starting at 1:55 p.m.
Live results throughout Wednesday’s events will be provided by Blue Ridge Timing. Weather forecasts predict high temperatures in the mid-70s with possible rain or thunderstorms during morning and late evening hours. A southwest breeze is expected to provide a tailwind for sprints and hurdles.
The meet serves as one of two remaining opportunities—alongside next week’s Conference USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships—for Liberty athletes to qualify for the NCAA Division I East First Rounds meet later this month in Lexington, Kentucky. Several Flames are currently ranked within or near qualifying positions in their respective events.
In addition to individual competitions such as Josh Blalock defending his title in the men’s 400 hurdles and Markus White aiming for another win in men’s long jump, Liberty athletes have broken eight program records during this outdoor season across various disciplines including javelin throw and heptathlon.
Looking ahead, those who qualify from Wednesday’s performances may advance to regional or national championships later this spring.
