The Liberty Flames will begin a four-game homestand by hosting the Delaware Blue Hens for a three-game Conference USA (CUSA) baseball series starting Friday, April 24 at Worthington Field at Liberty Baseball Stadium in Lynchburg, Virginia. The opening game is scheduled for 6 p.m., with subsequent games on Saturday and Sunday.
This matchup marks the first time Liberty and Delaware will face each other as conference opponents. The series is significant as both teams look to improve their standings within CUSA. Last weekend, Liberty won two out of three games against Dallas Baptist, moving into sole possession of third place in the league with a 13-5 conference record. The Flames have also won 14 of their last 17 games and currently hold a home record of 15-7 this season.
Earlier this week, Liberty split its midweek contests—defeating Duke at home and falling narrowly to No. 10 Virginia on the road. The last meeting between Liberty and Delaware occurred in February 2019 when the Flames swept a non-conference series at Worthington Field.
Head coach Bradley LeCroy is leading the team in his second season at Liberty, achieving a record of 59-39 with the program so far. LeCroy recently reached his milestone 100th career coaching victory following Liberty’s win over Hofstra on March 1.
Starting shortstop Tanner Marsh has been named one of fifty semifinalists for the Brooks Wallace Award by the College Baseball Foundation, recognizing him among the nation’s top shortstops based on offensive and defensive performance this season. Marsh leads Liberty with a .361 batting average, has scored forty-seven runs, recorded sixty hits, and holds an on-base percentage of .455 along with an OPS of over one thousand. He also leads CUSA in runs scored and triples while ranking among league leaders in several other categories including batting average, hits, walks, stolen bases, and fielding percentage.
Worthington Field has been notable for its strong home-field advantage since opening in 2013; Liberty holds an all-time record there of .699 winning percentage across more than three hundred eighty games played.
