Liberty University announced on May 4 that its softball team will start its quest for a third consecutive Conference USA (CUSA) championship on Wednesday at Delaware Softball Diamond in Newark, Delaware. The Lady Flames, who are the No. 3 seed in the tournament, will play against the winner of the earlier game between No. 6 seed FIU and No. 7 seed LA Tech.
The tournament runs from May 6 to May 9 and will be broadcast on ESPN+ with championship coverage by CBS Sports and radio coverage through LFSN Online Audio. Live statistics will be available via StatBroadcast.
Liberty has made five straight appearances in NCAA Regionals, including a historic run last year when it became the first team since the Super Regional era began in 2005 to eliminate a national No.1 seed from its regional bracket by defeating Texas A&M twice at the Bryan-College Station Regional. This achievement earned Liberty its first-ever Regional title.
In recent years, Liberty secured an at-large berth in the NCAA tournament in 2023, following back-to-back Atlantic Sun titles (2021-22) and two consecutive CUSA championships (2024-25). The Lady Flames are aiming for their first three-peat conference title and could become the first CUSA softball team since DePaul (2002-05) to win three straight conference tournaments.
The team recently tied a program record for runs scored during a three-game sweep over Kennesaw State, outscoring them by a combined total of 32-5 while posting an impressive .413 batting average across those games. Freshman pitcher Abigail Findlay threw a one-hit shutout during this series.
Several players have contributed notable performances this season: Alexia Carrasquillo leads with eleven home runs and forty-four RBIs; Dani Lee holds a .373 batting average; Ella Fox leads in runs scored and stolen bases; Savannah Jessee has eight home runs; Brynn McManus was named CUSA Player of the Week twice; Maci Strickland is recognized as two-time CUSA Freshman of the Week. On pitching staff, Camden Anders boasts nine wins in conference play with an ERA of 2.26 while Danner Allen recorded two shutouts including a no-hitter against Missouri State.
