Liberty men’s golf in third after first day of CUSA Championship

Liberty Flames men’s golf team finished the first day of the Conference USA Men’s Golf Championship in third place after play on Monday, April 27. The tournament is being held at Texarkana Country Club.

The team’s position follows a strong start, with Liberty holding a one-stroke lead at the turn before falling behind UTEP and New Mexico State during the back nine. Both UTEP and New Mexico State posted scores of 9-under par 279 to lead, while Liberty ended five shots back with a 4-under par 284.

Freshman Silas Haarer was among Liberty’s top performers, tying for fourth place individually after shooting a 3-under par 69. Senior Josh Ryan finished tied for ninth with a score of 2-under par 70. Other team members included Luke Libbey (even par), Michael Lugiano (1-over), and Ike Joy (2-over).

Kennesaw State currently holds fourth place with a score of 3-under par. The top four teams following Wednesday’s round will advance to two rounds of match play on Thursday to determine the conference champion.

Liberty will tee off again Tuesday morning in the lead group alongside UTEP and New Mexico State for round two.
