The Liberty Flames men’s basketball team announced on April 25 the addition of forward Osmar Garcia-Araujo to its roster for the 2026-27 season.
Garcia-Araujo, a 6-foot-7 player from Caracas, Venezuela, will transfer from Anderson University in South Carolina. He previously played two seasons at Lincoln Memorial before joining Anderson. Head coach Ritchie McKay said, “Osmar is one of those dudes that you just love being around. He’s got a joyful spirit and a super magnetic personality. He’s a really good basketball player who wants to win the game, and that shows up in his sacrificial nature.”
During his junior year at Anderson, Garcia-Araujo helped lead the Trojans to a 29-3 record and their first-ever South Atlantic Conference Championship title. The team also achieved a No. 5 national ranking and made an appearance in the Division II NCAA Tournament with Garcia-Araujo playing in all 32 games, starting in 31 of them. He averaged 16.5 points per game—second highest on the team—and led with seven rebounds per game.
Garcia-Araujo earned several honors last season including All-South Atlantic Conference first team recognition and was named to the Bevo Francis Award Top Watch list for small college basketball players nationwide.
He is Liberty’s fifth commitment through this year’s transfer portal along with Cobi Campbell, Cooper Campbell (both from Troy), Dillon Claussen (Washburn), and Sean Register Jr. (Eastern Florida State).
