The Liberty men’s basketball program announced on April 25 the addition of Dillon Claussen, a transfer forward from Washburn University, for the 2026-27 academic year.

Claussen, who stands at 6-foot-8 and hails from Omaha, Nebraska, will join the Flames after two seasons with Washburn at the Division II level. Head coach Ritchie McKay said, “I can’t tell you enough how excited we are to have Dillon join our family. He comes from a fabulous collegiate program that’s experienced a lot of success. He will make an immediate impact on our team.” McKay added, “Like a lot of our guys, he comes from a great family and has a really complete offensive game and a defense commitment.”

During his time at Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas, Claussen appeared in 64 games with 29 starts. Over those two seasons he averaged 11.3 points per game and 4.9 rebounds per game while recording notable defensive statistics including 68 blocks and 55 steals. Claussen is ranked third all-time in Washburn basketball history for career field goal percentage at 64.1 percent.

In his sophomore year with the Ichabods, Claussen led his team in scoring with an average of 15.6 points per game as they achieved a record of 31 wins and only two losses along with conference titles and national recognition at No.3 in Division II’s final poll that season. He was named to several all-conference teams and was placed on the Bevo Francis Top 25 Watch List by Small College Basketball.

As a freshman during the previous season (2024-25), Claussen played every game while setting Washburn’s freshman record for field goal percentage at nearly sixty-seven percent.

Claussen becomes Liberty’s third commitment through this year’s transfer portal process alongside Cobi Campbell and Cooper Campbell.
