The Liberty men’s basketball program announced on April 24 the addition of Cooper Campbell to its roster for the 2026-27 season. Head coach Ritchie McKay confirmed that Campbell, a guard from Puyallup, Washington, will transfer from Troy University.
The move is significant as Campbell joins his brother, Cobi Campbell, who is also transferring from Troy to Liberty. The announcement highlights family ties and past coaching connections within the program.
“Cooper is at the top of the board of someone we’d want in our program because of the way he plays. Offensively, he can score at all levels, creates for his teammates and is a tough defender. Having coached his dad, I’m super excited he’s a part of our program,” McKay said.
During his two years at Troy, Cooper Campbell contributed to back-to-back Sun Belt Championship titles. In the most recent season (2025-26), he started in 33 out of 34 games and averaged 12.5 points per game along with notable statistics in assists and rebounds. He was recognized for his shooting abilities both from long range and at the free throw line. His freshman year saw him appear in every game with three starts.
The Campbells’ father, Scott Campbell, served as an assistant coach at Troy and previously played collegiately at Seattle Pacific University—the same institution where McKay played and later served as an assistant coach during Scott’s time there.
Campbell becomes Liberty’s second commitment through this year’s transfer portal process alongside his brother Cobi.
