The Liberty Lady Flames lacrosse team is set to play two important Atlantic Sun Conference games this week, traveling to face Coastal Carolina on Thursday and Queens on Saturday. The team, currently holding a 5-9 overall record and 3-2 in conference play, will look to improve its standing with these away contests.
These upcoming matches are seen as pivotal for the Lady Flames’ season outlook. Success in both games could strengthen their position within the ASUN Conference as they approach the end of regular season play.
Liberty enters this stretch after splitting results last weekend: a loss to No. 19 Notre Dame and a win over Kennesaw State that marked their first home victory of the year. Katie Colavito was named ASUN Offensive Player of the Week following her nine-goal performance across both games, including four goals against Notre Dame.
The Lady Flames have found success on the road this spring with a 4-1 away record, their only loss coming in double overtime at USF earlier this month. Historically, Liberty has fared well against Coastal Carolina—winning ten out of fourteen previous meetings—and defeated them in last year’s ASUN Championship final. Against Queens, Liberty leads the all-time series 3-1 and secured an 18-17 comeback win on the road last season.
Freshman Sophia Nesci shares the team lead with Colavito at 33 goals each; Nesci also leads with 50 points and is close to breaking Katy Pridemore’s freshman points record from 2015. On defense, Colavito tops Liberty with 30 caused turnovers and ties Madeleine Klunder for most ground balls (32). Nationally, Liberty leads all teams in caused turnovers per game (16.29) and ranks second in ground balls per game (20.57).
Looking ahead, several players are approaching program milestones: Ava Menna now ranks second all-time at Liberty for draw controls; Klunder is fourth in career ground balls; Ava Rajala stands third for career assists; goalkeeper Rachel Hines ranks among national leaders in saves per game; Olivia Young has scored in seven straight contests.
