The Liberty Flames defeated the New Mexico State Aggies 15-4 after completing a suspended baseball game on May 2 at Presley Askew Field in Las Cruces, New Mexico.

The game was originally halted due to rain with the score tied at 3-3 after four innings. When play resumed, Liberty scored five unanswered runs and took control of the contest. Right-handed pitcher Josh Swink entered for Liberty and pitched the final five innings, allowing only one run on four hits.

Designated hitter Landon Scilley led Liberty’s offense by going 3-for-4 with four runs batted in and scoring four times. Catcher Kyle Hvidsten also went 3-for-4 with an RBI, while shortstop Tanner Marsh collected three hits, drove in two runs, and scored once. The Flames recorded a season-high of 18 hits during the game.

With this win, Liberty improved its record to 16-6 in Conference USA play and moved to 33-13 overall. The Aggies dropped to an overall record of 19-25 and are now 8-14 in conference games. The victory marked Liberty’s fourth consecutive win.

After a rain delay of over half an hour on Friday night led to suspension of play, both teams returned Saturday afternoon to finish the matchup. Other notable performances included right fielder Riley DeCandido, third baseman Jordan Jaffe, left fielder Nick Barone each recording two hits for Liberty; center fielder Josh Campos added two hits and three RBIs as well.

Looking ahead, Liberty and New Mexico State are scheduled to meet again later that evening for their regularly scheduled matchup.
