Liberty University edged Louisiana Tech 3-2 on May 10 at Worthington Field at Liberty Baseball Stadium, with right-hander Bradley Zayac pitching seven strong innings to secure the win.
The game was important for both teams as Liberty snapped a three-game losing streak and maintained its hold on second place in the Conference USA standings. The Flames improved to a conference record of 19-8 and an overall record of 36-16, while the Bulldogs dropped to 17-10 in conference play and 31-22 overall.
Zayac allowed two runs on six hits over seven innings, earning his eighth win of the season before Tyler August pitched a perfect eighth inning. Cooper Harrington closed out the game with a scoreless ninth for his tenth save. Ethan Swofford led Liberty’s offense with two hits and two runs batted in. “Right-hander Cooper Harrington pitched a scoreless ninth to record his 10th save of the season to close out the win.”
Liberty outhit Louisiana Tech seven to six, while leaving five runners on base compared to seven left by LA Tech. Zayac struck out three batters and walked three; Harrington struck out two in his save appearance. LA Tech’s Landon Fontenot took the loss after giving up three runs over four innings.
The victory keeps several notable streaks alive for Liberty: they have not been swept in any three-game series this season and have now won their most games since recording 37 wins in 2022. Shortstop Marsh extended his hitting streak to sixteen games—the longest by any Flame this year—and has reached base safely in thirty-three consecutive contests.
Looking ahead, Liberty will conclude its regular season home schedule against Wake Forest Demon Deacons on Tuesday evening at Worthington Field.
