Liberty University won 10-3 against Kennesaw State on May 2, completing a series sweep at Bailey Park.
The Lady Flames finished the regular season with a record of 26-27 overall and an 18-9 mark in Conference USA play. The outcome of the upcoming game between Western Kentucky University and Delaware will determine whether Liberty will be seeded second or third for the upcoming Conference USA Softball Championship.
In Saturday’s game, Liberty scored eight unanswered runs after trailing early. Kennesaw State led through three innings, helped by Macie Howes’ solo home run in the third. However, Liberty responded with a three-run fourth inning highlighted by Savanah Whatley’s two-run double and an RBI groundout from Ella Fox. In total, Liberty outhit KSU 12 to 3 and left six runners on base compared to four for the Owls.
Danner Allen earned her sixth win of the season for Liberty, pitching four innings and allowing three runs on three hits. Camden Anders secured the save with three hitless innings in relief. For KSU, Olivia Tyson took the loss as starting pitcher after allowing five runs over three innings.
Several players contributed notable performances: Paige Doerr went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored; Brynn McManus hit a home run; Alexia Carrasquillo had two hits; Dani Lee doubled and drove in a run; Brooke Roberts scored twice with two RBIs. For KSU, Maci Howes had a home run among her contributions.
Liberty has now won its last eighteen meetings against Kennesaw State and leads their all-time series twenty-four to six. This was also Liberty’s ninth come-from-behind victory this season. The team tied its single-series scoring record with thirty-two runs over this three-game stretch—matching its output from last year’s sweep at Queens University.
Official seeding for next week’s Conference USA Softball Championship will be announced later tonight. The tournament is scheduled to take place Wednesday through Saturday in Newark, Delaware.
