Liberty defeats Delaware 11-5 to even baseball series

The Liberty Flames defeated the Delaware Blue Hens 11-5 on April 25 at Worthington Field at Liberty Baseball Stadium.

The win allowed Liberty to even the three-game series against Delaware. The Flames now have a record of 14-6 in Conference USA and are 30-13 overall, while Delaware drops to 2-18 in conference play and 13-30 overall.

Liberty built a commanding lead early, scoring nine runs in the first three innings. Right fielder Riley DeCandido led the team with three hits, including two doubles, two runs batted in, and three runs scored. Third baseman Jordan Jaffe contributed with a double and a triple, driving in four runs and scoring twice. Left fielder Nick Barone and second baseman Easton Swofford also recorded two hits each for Liberty.

Starting pitcher Jaxon Lucas earned the win for Liberty after allowing five runs on six hits over five-plus innings. Reliever Brandon Dahlman pitched three scoreless innings to secure his first career save. For Delaware, starting pitcher Doug Marose took the loss after giving up seven runs—four earned—in just two innings.

Delaware’s Jeremy Wolf had two hits including his fourth home run of the season, collecting three RBI and scoring twice for the Blue Hens. The game experienced a rain delay of one hour and twenty-six minutes during the seventh inning.

With this victory, Liberty improved its home record to 16-8 this season. The teams will complete their series tomorrow at Worthington Field at Liberty Baseball Stadium with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
