The Liberty Flames baseball team defeated the Dallas Baptist Patriots 17-3 on Apr. 18 in their Conference USA opener at Horner Ballpark in Dallas, Texas.
This victory marks a significant achievement for Liberty, as it is their first win at Dallas Baptist and moves them to sole possession of third place in the conference standings. The result also represents the worst loss for Dallas Baptist at Horner Ballpark since 2015.
Liberty scored six runs in the third inning and nine more in the fourth, taking control of the game early. First baseman Jaxon Sorenson led Liberty’s offense by going 4-for-5 with a home run and three runs batted in. Second baseman Easton Swofford contributed two hits, including his first home run of the season, and drove in four runs.
Shortstop Tanner Marsh scored four times for Liberty, while several other players—including Riley DeCandido, Landon Scilley, and Josh Campos—each had two hits. Starting pitcher Ben Blair earned his sixth win of the season by allowing only two runs over five innings with seven strikeouts.
The Flames have now won seven straight road games and twelve of their last thirteen contests overall. They improved to a record of 27-10 overall and 12-4 within Conference USA play; Dallas Baptist fell to 21-16 overall and 11-5 within conference competition.
Liberty will continue its series against Dallas Baptist with another game scheduled tomorrow afternoon at Horner Ballpark.
