The Liberty Flames baseball team defeated the Boston College Eagles 8-3 to advance to the NCAA Athens, Georgia, Regional final on May 31 at Foley Field. With this win, Liberty ties its program record for wins in a season with 43.
Third baseman Jordan Jaffe led the Flames’ offense, going 3-for-4 with an RBI triple and a home run. Jaffe drove in two runs and scored three times. His triple came during Liberty’s five-run third inning after trailing by two runs, and he hit his third home run of the season in the fifth inning.
Left fielder Nick Barone contributed two RBI singles, while center fielder Josh Campos hit his 12th home run of the year. Pitchers Jaxon Lucas and Jake Potts combined to hold Boston College to three runs on seven hits. Potts picked up the win by allowing one unearned run over five innings pitched.
Liberty held a slight edge in hits at 10-7 and took advantage of two errors committed by Boston College. The Flames left six runners on base compared to nine for the Eagles. For Boston College, Ty Mainolfi had two hits, including a home run.
With this victory, Liberty advances to its third regional final in program history, having previously reached finals in Columbia (2013) and Knoxville (2021). The team will face No. 3 national seed Georgia later this evening.
