The Liberty Flames men’s basketball team announced on April 24 the signing of guard Cobi Campbell for the 2026-27 season.
Campbell, a 6-foot-2 transfer from Troy, will join the program along with his younger brother Cooper Campbell, who is also transferring from Troy. Head coach Ritchie McKay said, “Cobi has a great basketball acumen and IQ. I also think we’ll benefit from his experience. I think he’s a quiet leader who understands the game and the team and its connectivity.”
During his two years at Troy, Campbell contributed to back-to-back Sun Belt Championship titles and two NCAA Tournament appearances. In the most recent season, he played in 33 games with 31 starts, averaging nine points per game and leading his team with seventy three-pointers at a forty percent success rate.
Before transferring to Troy, Campbell played two seasons at North Idaho College where he averaged over eleven points per game as a sophomore and nearly seventeen points per game as a freshman while shooting more than fifty-two percent from three-point range.
Scott Campbell, father of Cobi and Cooper, served as an assistant coach at Troy and previously played collegiately at Seattle Pacific—the same school where McKay played. Scott Campbell was coached by McKay during the 1990-91 season when McKay was an assistant there.
Campbell is Liberty’s first commitment through this year’s transfer portal.
