The Liberty Flames’ baseball game against the New Mexico State Aggies was suspended on May 1 in the top of the fifth inning because of rain, with the score tied at 3-3. The suspension took place at Presley Askew Field in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
The suspension is significant for both teams as it interrupts a closely contested match. According to the announcement, play will resume tomorrow at 5 p.m. EST (3 p.m. MST), with Liberty batting.
Before play was halted, Liberty trailed 2-1 but took a brief lead in the fourth inning after shortstop Tanner Marsh hit an RBI single and right fielder Riley DeCandido added a sacrifice fly, putting them ahead 3-2. However, New Mexico State responded by tying the game at three runs apiece in their half of the fourth inning.
Heavy rain caused a delay lasting forty-seven minutes before officials decided to suspend play for safety reasons. The teams are set to complete this contest before starting game two of their series tomorrow.
The resumption of this suspended game will determine momentum heading into subsequent games between these two teams.
