Steve Cortes, founder of the League of American Workers, said Abigail Spanberger claims to be moderate but voted in lockstep with Nancy Pelosi while in Congress, including supporting Joe Biden’s “reckless immigration failures.” He gave his statement to Old Dominion News.

“Don’t fall for the deceptive ruse of Democrat radicals like Abigail Spanberger who pretend they’re moderates, and then actually fully implement extremist open borders policies,” said Cortes, Founder of League of American Workers. “Spanberger voted with San Francisco’s Nancy Pelosi 92% of the time in Congress, including supporting Biden’s reckless immigration failures. Spanberger is not a moderate, she’s wrong for Virginia, and would reverse the material progress of the Governor Youngkin administration.”

According to a report by Restoration News, former Representative Abigail Spanberger consistently opposed border security legislation during her time representing Virginia’s 7th Congressional District. Spanberger, who is the Democratic nominee for Virginia governor, presents herself as a bipartisan leader but has aligned with Democrats on immigration issues.

PolitiFact reports that Spanberger voted with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi 92% of the time during her tenure in Congress.

The official roll call from the U.S. House Clerk indicates that Spanberger voted against the Secure the Border Act (H.R. 2) in May 2023. The legislation proposed restarting border wall construction, expanding detention capacity, limiting asylum eligibility, and mandating E-Verify. Additionally, she voted against the bipartisan Laken Riley Act in 2024, which required detaining illegal immigrants charged with violent crimes.

In 2023, according to Restoration News, Spanberger described the Secure the Border Act as “partisan.” She endorsed Kamala Harris for president and did not support a resolution condemning the Biden-Harris administration’s open border policies.

Cortes is also noted as a Senior Political Advisor for CatholicVote according to their website.
