A single lane will be closed in both directions on I-495 in the Tysons-McLean area between the Dulles Corridor Interchange and American Legion Memorial Bridge this weekend, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation. The closures are scheduled for Saturday, November 15, and Sunday, November 16, from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Additionally, on Saturday, November 15, a single left lane will be closed on westbound Dulles Toll Road (Route 267) between Route 123 and the I-495 interchange from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. These extended daytime closures are required for paving and pavement marking activities, installation of flexible delineator posts, and other work needed before the new express lanes open.
Nightly multi-lane closures in both directions on I-495 and ramp closures with detours will continue through November. Single lane closures will start at 9 p.m., with up to three lanes closed by 10 p.m. each night. Ramp closures may begin as early as 9 p.m. and last until 5 a.m., reopening as work is completed. All lanes are expected to reopen by 5 a.m. on weekdays; on weekends, two lanes will reopen by 6 a.m., with one lane remaining closed until 9 p.m.
Crews are also installing lane markings and flex-posts that separate express lanes from general-purpose lanes as part of preparations for the opening of new express lanes scheduled for Saturday, November 22. All construction activities depend on weather conditions.
Drivers are advised to avoid the area if possible or use alternate routes due to potential backups and delays. Those who must travel through should allow extra time.
